22 Friday, September 22, 2023 Today all students will be engaged in Socratic Seminar #2 (Books 13-16). Next week, on Tues., 9/26 bring your choice reading book and analyze vocabulary. The Odyssey vocabulary assessment #2 is Wed., 9/27. From Wed., 9/26 through Fri., 9/29, we will analyze the Sisyphus myth and preview our final vocabulary list of The Odyssey.

19 Tuesday, September 19, 2023 Today is picture day during half of English class. During the other half, students will continue reading their choice books or The Odyssey, Books 8-16. Also, students may analyze words from our new vocabulary list. Read to the end of Book 16 by Wed., 9/20. We will discuss and prepare for Socratic Seminars. 17 Friday, September 15, 2023 Students will work to complete a writing plan for Confucius' "Analects" or Cicero's "On Friendship." After completion, students may continue reading their choice books or The Odyssey, Books 8-16. Lastly, students may analyze words from our new vocabulary list. On Mon., 9/18, students may continue reading Books 9-16 of The Odyssey. Tues., 9/19 is picture day during half of English class. Read to the end of Book 16 by Wed., 9/20. 16 Thursday, September 14, 2023 Students will further discuss assigned question sets with assigned peers pertaining to Cicero's "On Friendship." We will also discuss how The Odyssey characters are developing. Lastly, we will analyze words from our new vocabulary list. 15 Wednesday, September 13, 2023 Announce new vocabulary list #2 for The Odyssey. Write for three minutes about "Friends." Discuss friendship prior to reading Cicero's "On Friendship" aloud in class. Then, students will be assigned sets of post-reading questions to answer before being paired with others. On Thurs., 9/14, complete answering questions and discussing "On Friendship." On Fri., 9/15, students will begin writing plan about Analects and On Friendship. Read Books 9-16 of The Odyssey by Wed., 9/20. Socratic Seminar prep due Wed., 9/20. 14 Tuesday, September 12, 2023 Be sure Chromebooks are fully charged and ready to go. Students will take Odyssey reading assessment in Edulastic. Picture notes are due at the end of class. On Wed., 9/13, begin a new vocabulary set and read Cicero's "On Friendship." Answer questions and discuss "On Friendship" Thursday, 9/14. Fri., 9/15, begin writing about Analects and On Friendship.
13 Monday, September 11, 2023 Students discuss Odyssey passage to prepare for tomorrow's assessment. Discuss apostrophe. Time will be allotted to read and work on picture notes, due Tues. Ody passage 1-8
12 Friday, September 8, 2023 Students will take Odyssey Vocabulary Assessment #1. Have Chromebooks charged and ready to go. Afterwards, students will be given a passage for Books 1-8 of The Odyssey to annotate and discuss on Monday. Time will be allotted to read and work on picture notes, due Tues. On Mon., 9/11, we will discuss the annotated Odyssey passage and prepare for the assessment. By Tues., 9/12 complete picture notes and reading to the end of Book 8 of The Odyssey. 11 Thursday, September 7, 2023 Complete discussion on The Analects by Confucius. Analyze the literary term, anaphora. Time allotted for reading or vocabulary study. On Fri., 9/8, we will have Vocabulary #1 assessment and practice analyzing a passage from Books 1 - 8. Always have choice reading selection.
